Carlos Fernando Galan introduces world's first dual articulated electric buses to Bogotá's public transportation system

Bogotá is upgrading its public transit system by introducing 50 unique articulated electric buses. These vehicles are the first of their kind in the world to feature a dual topology, allowing them to operate on both main infrastructure and mixed traffic roads. Carlos Fernando Galan, the city's mayor, stated that these buses will improve travel for residents in the southwest of the city, particularly in the Bosa and Kennedy neighborhoods. The new fleet features doors on both sides, accommodating up to 160 passengers per vehicle. They are equipped with modern technology, including surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi, and digital rearview mirrors to enhance safety and monitoring. The buses were assembled by national companies Busscar and Marcopolo. This initiative is part of a larger plan to incorporate 900 electric buses between 2026 and 2029. Once fully operational, the fleet is expected to reduce annual CO2 emissions by approximately 57,478 tons, significantly improving air quality and reducing noise pollution for the city's inhabitants.
