Meteorologist Noah Bergren reports that a potentially historic El Niño event is strengthening in the Pacific Ocean, with a 69% chance of reaching 'historic' strength by the end of the year. This 'Super El Niño' is expected to have significant global impacts, potentially exceeding all previous records since 1950. While El Niño typically reduces tropical cyclone activity in the western Atlantic, it increases activity in the eastern and central Pacific. Experts note that the current warmth extends deep into the Pacific, with temperatures reaching 1.4 degrees Celsius above average in July. If current trends hold, the system could blow every historical event out of the water by November and December. The impacts will extend into the winter of 2026-27, with the southern U.S. and Florida facing wetter-than-usual conditions and a higher risk of severe weather. Conversely, the northern U.S. and Canada are expected to be warmer and drier. In California, the southern storm track may favor increased precipitation in central and southern regions.
