Milo Yiannopoulos expresses shame over past support for the administration's immigration policies after being deported

British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos was deported to the United Kingdom after being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) stated that Yiannopoulos legally entered the United States in May 2019 but overstayed his welcome in violation of national laws. The agency noted that an immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after Yiannopoulos failed to appear for a hearing. In a recent interview, Yiannopoulos described the experience of being held in ICE custody as humiliating, disorientating, and physically degrading. He expressed regret regarding his previous support for President Trump's mass deportation agenda, stating that he was ashamed of his past advocacy. While the administration announced that Yiannopoulos's removal serves as a warning to illegal immigrants, the commentator disputed the government's account of his overstaying a visa, claiming he held a green card that he was renewing on a two-year basis. The administration announced that it will no longer permit illegal immigrants to fly within the country unless they are departing the United States. To encourage voluntary departure, the federal government is offering $3,000 and a free flight to those who leave voluntarily.
