Simon & Schuster has published the posthumous memoir of Professor Jason Arday, titled Great and Unfortunate Things. The book tells the story of an autistic boy who was non-verbal as a child and did not learn to read until his late teens, eventually becoming the youngest Black professor in the history of Cambridge University. This release follows the death of Professor Jason Arday at age 41, which occurred after intense media coverage regarding allegations of plagiarism in his academic career. While Liverpool John Moores University cleared him of wrongdoing, the University of Cambridge launched an investigation into his appointment. The memoir was published in agreement with his family's wishes to honor his personal journey. A fundraiser led by Sir Patrick Vernon raised over £224,000 to support his family and cover memorial expenses. The publication comes as the academic community reflects on Arday's contributions to education and neurodiversity.
