Omar Garcia Harfuch, Mexico's Secretary of Security and Protection of the Citizen, traveled to Buenos Aires to participate in the 40th International Conference for Drug Control. Organized by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Argentine Ministry of Security, the summit serves as a platform for over 100 countries to coordinate law enforcement priorities against narcotics trafficking, international money laundering, and terrorism. During the conference, Omar Garcia Harfuch presented the results of the security strategy implemented by the administration of Claudia Sheinbaum. He highlighted key achievements including drug seizures, the destruction of laboratories, and the detention of key targets. Despite a complex history between Mexico and the DEA, the administration chose to send Omar Garcia Harfuch to demonstrate Mexico's commitment to international cooperation under the principle of "coordination without subordination." The selection of Buenos Aires as the host city reflects the strong relationship between President Trump and his Argentine counterpart, Javier Milei. The summit aims to strengthen operational cooperation and share critical intelligence to dismantle global drug trafficking networks.
