Burlington Stores Inc. Relocates Corporate Headquarters to Philadelphia in $370 Million Investment

Burlington Stores Inc. is relocating its corporate headquarters from Burlington Township, New Jersey, to a new site in Philadelphia. The company is spending $370 million on the move, which includes purchasing property at 3151 Market St. in the Schuylkill Yards development. The administration announced that the move is expected to create at least 2,000 new jobs in the Philadelphia area over the next five years. To facilitate the relocation, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker provided several incentives. The state is investing $30 million in grants, while the city is providing a $7 million forgivable loan and a job-creation tax credit. Additionally, Burlington employees will receive free SEPTA transit passes for one year. Burlington Stores Inc. CEO Michael O’Sullivan stated that the company outgrew its current headquarters and chose Philadelphia for its economic development, education, and public transportation priorities. While the move marks a loss for New Jersey, the company will maintain a significant presence in the state, keeping its warehouse and distribution centers in Burlington County and other surrounding areas.
