Ricardo Peñuela announces first economic subsidies for earthquake victims in Cali

Ricardo Peñuela, the Secretary of Risk Management and Emergencies and Disasters of Cali, announced that the city has begun delivering the first cut of economic subsidies to residents affected by the August 10 earthquake. Approximately 11,100 people whose homes or commercial establishments were classified as non-habitable or destroyed will receive $1,050,000 each. These payments will be distributed through the SuperGIROS payment network and direct bank transfers. The funds are sourced from a Collective Investment Fund managed jointly with the National Unit for Risk Management of Disasters. Peñuela stated that the process involves strict protocols and data cleaning to ensure transparency. Mayor Alejandro Eder noted that over 42,000 families are still waiting for assistance, and the city is currently contacting registered individuals via WhatsApp to confirm their preferred payment method. While disbursements begin, authorities continue to evaluating over 1,700 buildings to determine which can be recovered or must be demolished, with 11 structures already selected for demolition.
