The Transportation Security Administration launches Gateside program to allow non-ticketed guests to enter airport gates

The Transportation Security Administration has launched a new program called Gateside by TSA PreCheck. This initiative allows eligible TSA PreCheck members who do not have tickets to pass through security checkpoints and enter secure gate areas at several U.S. airports. The program aims to revive the tradition of non-ticketed guests providing emotional send-offs and welcomes for departing and arriving passengers, a practice that was largely restricted following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Under the program, members can apply online for a free pass at least one day and no more than three days before their visit. Approved guests can use a TSA PreCheck lane with an acceptable form of identification. The passes are valid for one calendar day, and re-entries are permitted during that day. Children can also be included on the application. Members of other trusted-traveler programs with a Known Traveler Number may also apply. The initial rollout includes 13 airports, such as Los Angeles International Airport, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and Harry Reid International Airport. The Transportation Security Administration plans to expand the program to additional airports in the coming months.
