Assemblywoman Katie Brennan calls for independent investigation into Lt. Gov. Dale Caldwell's behavior
Assemblywoman Katie Brennan is advocating for a thorough and independent investigation into allegations of inappropriate behavior and ethics violations involving Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell. The administration of Governor Mikie Sherrill is currently conducting an inquiry into Caldwell, who also serves as the New Jersey secretary of state, regarding his interactions with women and the purported offer of state jobs. An outside legal team led by former state Attorney General Christopher Porrino is heading the investigation. Governor Sherrill stated that any credible report of misconduct must be fully examined and addressed. Assemblywoman Brennan expressed that survivors of misconduct should not have to hope that those in charge will do the right thing, and she plans to introduce legislation to strengthen protections for survivors and whistleblowers. This legislation aims to codify New Jersey's State Workplace Anti-Harassment and Discrimination Policy and require political campaigns to adopt anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies. Assemblywoman Brennan's advocacy stems from her own experience as a victim of sexual assault during a 2017 gubernatorial campaign. She has since become a leading advocate for laws that protect survivors of harassment and assault.
