Nekime Matu Oxendine Indicted for First-Degree Murder in Shooting Death of Cumberland County Sheriff's Captain Adam Bean

A judge ordered Oxendine to be held without bond while he remains on administrative leave from the Highway Patrol. Investigations revealed the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute involving a woman who had been in a long-term relationship with Bean and previously dated Oxendine. The woman, who is also a member of the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, is the sister of the State Highway Patrol's head. According to search warrants, Bean arrived home upset that Oxendine's truck was parked at the house. Oxendine walked out of the house holding a gun and fired warning shots into the ground before allegedly firing several more shots that struck Bean. Bean was found in the front yard by a woman performing CPR. Oxendine is an 18-year veteran of the Highway Patrol. Bean served with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office for nearly two decades.
