A Russian military official, identified as Sergei Sechkov, was killed in a car explosion in St. Petersburg. The 43-year-old lieutenant colonel served in the Aerospace Forces and was a military pilot. The blast occurred near a supermarket in the Shushary neighborhood on the August 27 morning. Russian law enforcement identified a 24-year-old woman as a suspect in the bombing. Reports indicate she was allegedly recruited by Ukrainian handlers online to plant a "powerful and complex" bomb under Sechkov's car. The suspect reportedly received a deal from Ukrainian armed forces to plant the bomb and then leave Russia for Ukraine. The officer's wife was inside the car during the blast and is currently receiving medical treatment. Russia's Investigation Committee has launched a criminal probe into the incident. While Ukraine has not officially commented on the claim, Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out several assassinations of military officers since the start of the full-scale invasion.
