An Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport, killing five people and injuring five others.

An Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, 2026, striking a van and an SUV. The crash killed five people: Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Julio C. Pineda, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo. Five others were injured, including Ridoel Averhoff Diaz and Roosevelt Sebastian Perdomo Torres in the van, and Eugenio Corredor in the SUV. The pilots, Joseph Carroll and Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, were released from the hospital with minor injuries. National Transportation Safety Board investigators are reviewing flight data to determine why the aircraft traveled 1,300 feet past the end of the runway. Data suggests the pilots attempted to abort the landing but failed to use thrust reversers or speed brakes. The plane, operated by 21 Air for Amazon, was landing after a flight from San Juan. Yaraisi Santiso Morejon filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Amazon Inc., Amazon Air Cargo, 21 Air LLC, and the pilots. The lawsuit alleges the crash was a preventable disaster caused by pilot error, inadequate training, and the use of a 32-year-old aircraft.
