Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello faces felony charges after allegedly shooting into a Jeep during a road rage incident on Interstate 77

Dr. Richard Thomas Arriviello, a 61-year-old physician from Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested on August 22 after an alleged road rage incident on Interstate 77. While driving a Mercedes-Benz northbound, Arriviello allegedly fired into a moving Jeep, striking two sisters, ages 12 and 20, in the legs. Both victims were airlifted to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Virginia State Police reported that the shooting occurred around 8:50 a.m. near the three-mile marker. Following the gunfire, Arriviello fled the scene but was eventually stopped and taken into custody by troopers near Exit 19. He faces several felony charges, including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle and maliciously causing bodily harm with intent to maim. While the specific cause of the road rage encounter was not disclosed, the driver of the Jeep was cited for reckless driving. Arriviello, who owns Family Urgent Care in Monroe, remains jailed without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail.
