Lenny Gunther Confirms Two Dead in Savannah Murder-Suicide Following Barricaded Suspect Incident
Savannah Police Chief Lenny Gunther confirmed that two men are dead following a suspected murder-suicide in the 600 block of East Broad Street on Thursday afternoon. The incident began shortly before 4 p.m. when officers received a 911 call reporting a shooting. Officers discovered an adult man with a life-threatening gunshot wound in the street, who was later transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center and pronounced dead. The suspect, who shared a home with the victim, barricaded himself inside the residence for several hours. A large law enforcement presence, including SWAT teams and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, responded to the scene. After SWAT teams breached the home, they discovered the suspect had died from an apparent self-inflicted wound. Chief Lenny Gunther noted that the shooting was an isolated incident and the public was not in danger. Most roads in the area were reopened by 6:50 p.m. as the investigation continues.
