Lakesha Brown arrested after kidnapping two sisters and allegedly faking her own pregnancy in separate cases

Atlanta police arrested Lakesha Brown, a 42-year-old babysitter from Birmingham, Alabama, after she allegedly kidnapped two sisters, Zola Cooper and Norah Cooper, and kept them in a sweltering trailer for nearly two days. The children were reported missing on Saturday night after their mother, Elicia Redding, left them with Brown, who had gained her trust over a year of friendship. Brown initially provided conflicting reports, claiming she was in an accident or that the children were at a hospital, while the mother searched for them. Investigators eventually located the children in a trailer with no air conditioning, where they were found in good health. Brown faces two counts of kidnapping and two counts of first-degree cruelty to children in Georgia. Additionally, a separate investigation in Paulding County revealed that Brown allegedly faked her own pregnancy and used photographs to deceive a man into believing she had given birth. This conduct resulted in an obstruction charge. Brown also faces an outstanding warrant for a separate kidnapping case in Alabama involving a 4-day-old baby. Authorities are currently seeking to determine her motives as the cases move through the court system.
