A crocodile handler in Papua New Guinea died after being trapped in the jaws of a predator for over an hour.

A worker at Adventure Park in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, died on Sunday morning after being attacked by a crocodile during a feeding demonstration. The handler, who had worked at the park for approximately two years, was attacked on Saturday afternoon while attempting to feed a chicken to the reptile inside a fenced enclosure.

Eyewitness Gibson John reported that the crocodile grabbed the man's legs and attempted to drag him into the water. The man remained trapped in the crocodile's jaws for more than an hour before police shot the reptile to free him. During the struggle, bystanders offered a pole and held the man's arms from the edge of the pool. The man, who was from the Western Islands in northern Papua New Guinea, lost a leg during the attack. He was transported to 3 Mile General Hospital by St John Ambulance, where he passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday. Adventure Park has closed until further notice, and staff members gathered at a funeral home on Sunday to honor the worker.
