Unitree to list in Shanghai as world's largest humanoid robot maker prepares for milestone IPO

Unitree, the world's largest humanoid robot maker by sales, is set to list in Shanghai on Wednesday. The company's initial public offering has already raised 6.1 billion yuan ($905 million) and is more than 8,000 times oversubscribed, marking a record for the city's tech-focused STAR market. Unitree has gained national prominence through its dancing and kung-fu fighting androids, becoming a key strategic firm in China's ambition to dominate future technology. The company recently unveiled a new humanoid robot dubbed "Superman," which it claims can outrun and outjump top human athletes, including surpassing the top speed of Usain Bolt. While China currently dominates global humanoid robot sales, the technology faces hardware and software constraints. Experts note that moving from flashy demonstrations to widespread industrial adoption will take time. Additionally, the company faces potential challenges from US government restrictions, as it was recently added to the US government's blacklist of Chinese military-linked companies.
