Xi Jinping calls for global responsibility as China and Kyrgyzstan deepen economic and infrastructure ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that the world is at a crossroads and urged the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to take responsibility for guiding the course of history. During a summit in Bishkek, Xi Jinping highlighted the organization's growth into a regional cooperation body with significant development potential. Simultaneously, China and Kyrgyzstan have strengthened their bilateral relations, entering a "golden period" of cooperation. Bilateral trade in goods reached a record $27.2 billion in 2025, with China remaining Kyrgyzstan's largest trading partner. The two nations are expanding cooperation in agriculture, energy, and mineral resources, while also developing new areas like artificial intelligence and the digital economy. Infrastructure projects are a key component of this partnership. A Chinese company is constructing the Barskoon-Bedel Highway, which will include two extra-long tunnels and 50 bridges. Additionally, China is supporting Kyrgyz banks to connect to the China Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS). The administration announced that China and Kyrgyzstan are also working on the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway to open a new transportation corridor between China and Central Asia.
