Laura Nathalia Quintero reports on the ongoing seismic activity across Colombia following a major earthquake.
Colombia continues to experience significant seismic activity following a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that occurred two weeks ago. According to reports from the Colombian Geological Service (SGC), at least 15 seismic movements were recorded during the early morning of Monday, August 24, 2026. These events were primarily concentrated in the Choc贸 department, with most recording low magnitudes. Laura Nathalia Quintero noted that the country remains active due to its location in the Pacific Fire Belt, where the interaction of the Nazca, South American, and Caribbean Plates creates constant tectonic movement. Specific events included a 4.1 magnitude quake in Istmina, Choc贸, and a 3.0 magnitude quake in Zapatoca, Santander. The SGC emphasizes that while earthquakes cannot be predicted, prevention remains the primary tool for risk reduction. The monitoring network continues to track these movements across the country's complex tectonic zones.
