National Coordination for Civil Protection Urges Citizens to Prepare for Heavy Rainfall and Heat Waves Across Mexico

The National Coordination for Civil Protection (CNPC) has advised the Mexican population to maintain clean streets and drainage systems to mitigate flooding risks during the upcoming weekend. Heavy rains are forecasted for several states, with Oaxaca expected to receive 75 to 150 mm of precipitation. The CNPC warned that these rains, driven by the Mexican Monsoon and tropical waves, may cause rising river levels and urban flooding, urging residents to stay alert and identify evacuation routes. Simultaneously, a significant heat wave will impact the northern and coastal regions of the country. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach 40 to 45 degrees Celsius in areas such as Baja California, Sonora, and Nuevo León. To counter the heat, authorities recommend staying hydrated and wearing light clothing. While the monsoon brings intense rainfall to the west and center, some regions will experience isolated showers and long periods of sunshine. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) noted that while the heat remains a primary factor, thunderstorms with hail and wind may provide temporary cooling in some areas.
