Judge Amanda Hopkins Increases Barry Morphew's Bond to $10 Million Following Alleged Hit-and-Run Violation

Judge Amanda Hopkins increased Barry Morphew's bond to $10 million cash-only after the murder suspect allegedly violated his release conditions. The increase follows an incident on August 26 where Barry Morphew was involved in an alleged hit-and-run in Denver. Video footage showed Barry Morphew driving aggressively and striking two vehicles before fleeing the scene after a driver threatened to call the police. Prosecutors argued that Barry Morphew demonstrated a lack of respect for court orders, noting that GPS data revealed him traveling for non-work purposes, such as visiting the Denver International Airport and various local landmarks. Special Deputy District Attorney Fred Johnson stated that Barry Morphew posed a flight risk and showed what he would do when push comes to shove. Barry Morphew maintains his innocence regarding the first-degree murder charge for the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew. He was indicted in June 2025 after her remains were discovered in September 2023. If Barry Morphew posts the new bond, he will be required to stay in the San Luis Valley on a GPS monitor unless granted permission to leave for medical emergencies or court appearances.
