Students from over 200 Colorado schools walk out of class to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement actions

Students from more than 200 Colorado schools participated in a statewide walkout on Friday to protest actions taken by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The demonstration was organized by advocacy groups, including the Colorado Youth Coalition and 50501 Colorado, to demand that immigrant communities be treated with dignity and respect. Students from various districts, including Boulder Valley and Greeley-Evans School District 6, left their classrooms to join the protest. In Denver, hundreds of students gathered at La Alma-Lincoln Park, where they chanted and carried signs urging federal agents to stop separating families. The walkout was intended to send a message to adults in power regarding the impact of federal immigration authorities on local communities. While most of the protest remained peaceful, a counterprotester was briefly agitated by the students. During the demonstration, students also heard from democratic socialist Melat Kiros, who urged the youth to continue advocating for immigrant neighbors. The walkout served as a collective expression of student voices and a way to show support for the community's immigrant population.
