Alejandro Eder identifies 25,000 to 30,000 families as potential earthquake victims in Cali

The administration announced that between 25,000 and 30,000 families in Cali could be registered as victims of the earthquake that struck on August 10. Alejandro Eder stated that over 20,000 families are already included in the official registry, with the final list expected to be completed by Monday. This registration is a critical step for the recovery and reconstruction phase, allowing for a more precise determination of needs and resource allocation. Following the search and rescue operations, the National Government designated Jaime Uribe to lead the reconstruction process. Uribe noted that the first priority is consolidating accurate data on damages to plan the reconstruction as efficiently as possible. To assist residents, the Cali City Council is implementing a color-coded system to communicate building habitability. Green stickers indicate habitable buildings, yellow stickers for restricted habitation, and red stickers for non-habitable buildings. This preliminary visual inspection serves as a preventive measure to guide citizens and prioritize life protection, though it does not replace a specialized technical assessment for final decisions on repairs or demolition.
