Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins Faces Contempt Probe Over Disputed Congressional Redistricting Map

Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins faces a contempt probe by the Missouri Supreme Court after he instructed local officials to use a new congressional redistricting map despite a state court ruling blocking its use. The court ruled that the new map, which was endorsed by Trump, cannot be used for the November election unless voters approve it via a referendum. While the state court blocked the map, a federal district judge appointed by the administration issued a temporary restraining order requiring the state to use the new districts. This created a conflict between the state and federal courts. The U.S. Supreme Court also declined to grant an emergency stay to the state's new map. The new redistricting plan seeks to eliminate one of the state's two Democratic-held seats, currently held by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. Secretary of State Denny Hoskins must appear in person before the court on Thursday to explain why he should not be held in contempt. The state's Attorney General, Catherine Hanaway, argued that changing the map between the primary and general elections would be profoundly unjust to voters.
