Congress elects Cielo Rusinque and Ana Jimena Bautista as new magistrates of the National Electoral Council

The full Congress elected nine new magistrates for the National Electoral Council (CNE) to serve the 2026-2030 period. Cielo Rusinque and Ana Jimena Bautista secured two seats for the Pacto Histórico bloc, while the Democratic Center secured two seats, including one in alliance with the MIRA party. Other parties, including Radical Change, La U, Liberal, Conservative, and Salvation National, each secured one seat. Cielo Rusinque, a former minister of Justice, and Ana Jimena Bautista, a former director of the National Land Agency, will join the council alongside Nubia Stella Martnez, Silvio Carrasquilla, Juan Carlos Wills, Juan Felipe Lemos, Antonio Parra, Plinio Alarcón, and Gersel Pérez. The council will officially take office on September 1st. The selection process involved extensive negotiations and political agreements between the government and opposition parties. The new magistrates will be responsible for regulating and monitoring electoral activity, including defining the legal status of political parties and overseeing the financing of legislative and campaigns.
