Mexico City authorities activate orange and yellow alerts as intense rains cause localized flooding and infrastructure issues.
The Secretariat for Integrated Risk Management and Civil Protection of the City of Mexico activated an orange alert for Coyoacán, Iztapalapa, and Xochimilco due to persistent strong rains. A yellow alert was issued for several other districts, including Álvaro Obregón and Gustavo A. Madero. The heavy rainfall led to significant flooding in the urban zone of Ejidal Santa Martha Acatitla Sur, where a vehicle became stuck in a 150-meter stretch of water. In Coyoacán, a 25-meter-long tree fell at the Escuela Moderna Americana, though no injuries were reported. The rains, driven by a city-wide tropical wave, are expected to continue into the night and Sunday, with temperatures dropping as humidity remains high. Authorities recommend residents take extra precautions against potential floods and falling structures due to wind gusts reaching 40 to 45 km/h.
