The 2026 Toyota 4Runner takes first place in Consumer Reports' ranking of the three most popular off-road SUVs.
Consumer Reports ranked the 2026 Toyota 4Runner as the top off-road SUV among the three most popular mainstream brands. The ranking considered the Toyota 4Runner, the Ford Bronco, and the Jeep Wrangler, evaluating them based on predicted reliability, owner satisfaction, and road test scores. The 2026 Toyota 4Runner secured the top spot primarily due to its superior predicted reliability and a burly yet accessible driving personality. It features a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 278 horsepower, with a hybrid option available. While it is the most expensive of the three, starting at $43,020, it offers reasonable value. The 2026 Ford Bronco took second place, offering a 300-hp 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed manual transmission option. It is slightly cheaper than the Toyota, starting at $40,495. The 2026 Jeep Wrangler finished third. Despite being a super capable off-roader, it is noted for its quirks on highways and lower reliability compared to the Toyota. It is the most affordable of the three, starting at $38,030.
