Tina Peters declines job offer from Shasta County Elections Office

Tina Peters, the former Mesa County, Colorado, election clerk, stated that she will not accept a position with the Shasta County Elections Office in California. This announcement clarifies previous reports that Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Clint Curtis intended to hire Peters, potentially as a contractor, to assist with election integrity and ballot-authenticity efforts while Assistant Registrar of Voters Brent Turner is on medical leave. While the county sought to bring Peters into the office, California Governor Gavin Newsom directed the state corrections department to block any transfer of her parole supervision from Colorado to California. This move was prompted by concerns from the administration and two California U.S. senators regarding Peters' role in a 2021 breach of her home county's election system. Peters was convicted in 2024 on multiple charges for allowing an unauthorized person to access voting equipment while pursuing claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election. Despite the possibility of a job in California, Peters stated her focus remains on advocating for transparent and auditable election practices across all 3,144 counties in the United States.
