Corie Walsh remains in custody after being charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old son

Corie Walsh was denied pre-trial release and will remain in the Will County Jail pending her trial for the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh. A judge ruled that Walsh poses a clear and present threat to her husband and three other children, citing clear and convincing evidence of her involvement in the offense. On September 1, a neighbor discovered Barrett hanging in the family basement with a cord around his neck. While the neighbor performed CPR, Corie Walsh was found upstairs in a bathtub, allegedly having cut herself with a knife. Walsh allegedly told officers that she killed her son because he was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ." Defense attorney Andrea Lyon stated that Walsh was experiencing a psychotic episode at the time of the death. Prosecutors filed three counts of first-degree murder based on different legal theories regarding her intent and knowledge of the outcome. The case is also noted for Walsh's heavy involvement in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, which she discussed with friends via text messages until shortly before her son was discovered.
