Colonel Carlos Didier Perez Amorocho faces charges for allegedly collaborating with armed criminal groups and receiving bribes

Colonel Carlos Didier Perez Amorocho of the National Army was formally charged by the General Attorney’s Office for his alleged involvement in collaborating with the ELN and dissident FARC factions. The investigation alleges that Perez Amorocho received weekly payments of up to 30 million pesos to provide classified information regarding military operations, which facilitated the transportation of narcotics, arms, and money for the armed groups. In 2020, while commanding a battalion in Arauca, Perez Amorocho allegedly received 15 million pesos from the ELN's Eastern Front to reduce military pressure in the region. By 2025, while commanding an elite unit in Nariño, he allegedly established ties with the Alfonso Cano Block of the Second Marquetalia, receiving 30 million pesos weekly. The officer is also accused of delaying a military advance in April of this year to allow criminal leaders to escape via speedboat. Perez Amorocho denied the charges of aggravated conspiracy, bribery, and possession of restricted arms. A hearing to determine his preventive detention will occur on August 24.
