Reno Fire Marshal John Beck stated that investigators have begun the process of determining the origin and cause of the Hawk Fire. While firefighters are nearing the completion of the blaze, the investigation focuses on identifying the specific point of ignition and narrowing down potential causes such as weather, power lines, or human activity. Beck noted that the investigation begins immediately as the fire starts, utilizing information from firefighters, witnesses, and social media. However, he cautioned that evidence is often destroyed as the fire burns, making the final determination of the cause more difficult once the fire is extinguished. Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue is currently seeking public input, including photos and videos, to help identify the source. If the fire was intentionally set, the responsible party could face felony arson charges, while accidental causes may result in civil liability.
