Charter Communications Completes $34.5 Billion Merger with Cox Communications to Become Nation's Largest Broadband Provider

Charter Communications has finalized a landmark $34.5 billion merger with Cox Communications and completed the acquisition of Liberty Broadband Corporation. The transaction establishes Charter Communications as the largest broadband and video provider in the United States, operating across a 45-state footprint. Under the agreement, Cox Communications customers will transition to the Spectrum brand by mid-September 2026. While the corporate parent will eventually adopt the Cox Communications name within a year, the consumer-facing services will remain under the Spectrum brand. Chris Winfrey, President and CEO of Charter Communications, stated that the merger will provide customers with better pricing and higher value. The administration announced that the combined company will re-shore overseas jobs and hire over 1,000 new sales positions, while moving all customer service functions back to the United States. The deal includes a 26% ownership stake for Cox Enterprises. Alex Taylor has been appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors, while Chris Winfrey continues to leadership as President and CEO.
