Made Fresh Salads Inc. Recalls Deli Salads and Cream Cheese Products Due to Potential Listeria Contamination
Made Fresh Salads Inc. is recalling 68 ready-to-eat deli-style salads and cream cheese products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The Food and Drug Administration announced the recall after areas of the company's facility tested positive for the bacteria. While no illnesses have been reported to date, listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant people. The recalled items include bean, vegetable, and fish salads, as well as scallion, garlic, and other flavored cream cheeses. These products were sold under the Made Fresh Salads and Northside labels in 5-pound and 30-pound white plastic tubs or half-size aluminum pans. The products were distributed in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and potentially other areas of New York City. Consumers who purchased the products with expiration dates between September 3 and September 18 are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Made Fresh Salads Inc. has ceased production and distribution of the products while the investigation continues.
