These alerts will feature a distinct sound from the current seismic alert, which will continue to operate without changes. In addition to immediate alerts, the system will include Civil Protection Notices. These notices will provide advance warning of adverse weather conditions and environmental contingencies, such as heavy rainfall, extreme cold fronts, heat waves, and poor air quality. These notices can be sent hours or days in advance to provide recommendations for prevention, evacuation, and shelter. The Commission for Regulating Telecommunications stated that receiving these alerts will not require a phone balance or an internet connection. The messages cannot be disabled and will appear immediately on the device screen via a pop-up window. Implementation will occur during the last quarter of the year once mobile phone providers complete the necessary technical adaptations.
