Norma Solano confirms Mexico's first phone line registration deadline for numbers ending in zero on August 15

The Communications Regulatory Commission (CRT) has established a mandatory registration process for mobile phone lines in Mexico to eliminate anonymous usage and curb crimes like fraud and extortion. Norma Solano, president commissioner of the CRT, stated that the first deadline, which expires this Saturday, August 15, applies to all lines ending in zero. Telecommunications companies will begin suspending services for these lines within 72 hours after the deadline. While users with suspended lines can still access emergency services and 911, ordinary services like calls, texts, and mobile data will be unavailable until registration is complete. The process requires users to provide their Unique Population Registration Code (CURP) and a valid ID. The administration has noted that data is stored directly by the telecommunications companies. The CRT has confirmed that there will be no further extensions, urging citizens to complete the registration via online portals or in-person at customer service centers to avoid permanent deactivation of their numbers.
