Court Rejects Tutelage Action by Iván Cepeda Regarding Peace Radio Stations

The Court No. 32 of Execution of Sentences and Security Measures in Bogotá denied a tutelage action filed by Iván Cepeda and representatives of social organizations against the Ministry of Information Technology and Communications and Inravisión. The legal action questioned the temporary suspension of local, news, and opinion programming for 20 peace radio stations that began on August 18. The plaintiffs argued that the suspension affected fundamental rights to freedom of expression, information, and peace. However, the court ruled that Inravisión did not issue a directive to close or eliminate the stations, as they continued to broadcast 24 hours a day. The court determined that the change was a transitory reorganization of programming rather than a definitive act of censorship. The administration announced that 16 of the 20 stations will resume local programming on September 7 under the name "Emisoras de la Reconciliación." Four stations—Buenaventura, Agustín Codazzi, Riosucio, and Tierralta—remain suspended because they were launched in 2024 without the required legal concessions. Inravisión manager Ángela María Mora Soto stated that the suspension of these four stations is a legal requirement rather than a political or editorial decision.
