Lucia Sisic, the reigning Miss Austria, has died at the age of 22. Mission Austria, the organization that runs the Miss Austria and Mister Austria beauty pageants, announced the news in a tribute on its official Facebook page on Monday, September 7. Sisic was crowned Miss Austria in 2024 and remains the titleholder as no subsequent contest has been staged. While a specific cause of death has not yet been revealed, reports indicate she was born with a heart valve defect and underwent multiple surgeries throughout her life, including a recent operation last winter. Sisic spoke publicly about her health journey, expressing gratitude to her pediatric cardiology team in an August 2024 Instagram post. She thanked the specialists for their efforts in saving her life and helping her lead a fulfilling life despite her heart condition. Mission Austria CEO Kerstin Rigger and her husband Jörg signed the tribute, stating that Sisic would remain a part of the Miss Austria family.
