David Burke replaces celebrity lawyers with public defender in murder trial of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez

David Burke, the 21-year-old musician known as D4vd, has been appointed a public defender to represent him in his upcoming murder trial. During a hearing on Monday, the court granted a request from his previous legal team, including Blair Berk, to withdraw from the case. Judge Charlaine Olmedo determined that Burke qualified for appointed counsel, and the singer entered a not guilty plea to charges of first-degree murder, child sexual abuse, and mutilation of human remains. Prosecutors allege that Burke killed 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez after she threatened to reveal their sexual relationship and ruin his music career. The teen's remains were discovered in the trunk of an impounded Tesla registered to Burke's address in September 2025. Prosecutors allege Burke stabbed the girl multiple times and dismembered her body to hide evidence. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that his office is ready to proceed with the case. The next court date is set for October 19, where the defense will confirm if they are ready for trial.
