The Attorney General's Office analyzes over 20 bags of human remains found at the El Angel funeral home in Iguala

The Attorney General's Office is currently conducting rigorous laboratory analyses on more than 20 bags of human remains, known as "petrosas," found in the Iguala region. These fragments, which were subjected to high temperatures and are currently under study, were discovered in the El Angel funeral home and the Cocula garbage dump. While these remains have not yet been confirmed to belong to the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students, they represent a new line of investigation that could significantly alter the narrative of the 2014 disappearance. The El Angel funeral home has been a point of interest since 2011, as it held the concession for the Iguala Medical Forensic Service. Investigations revealed that the facility housed an unregistered clandestine crematory. The discovery of these remains, which were previously omitted or ignored during earlier stages of the investigation, is now being prioritized by the administration. The administration announced that the investigation into the funeral home and its surrounding areas is ongoing. The owner of the El Angel funeral home, Rodolfo Rueda Mazon, has been detained and is subject to trial. Families of the students and human rights organizations have requested that the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team conduct the studies to confirm the identity of the remains.
