Global AI Infrastructure Investment Projected to Reach $31.6 Trillion by 2050
Global investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure is projected to reach $31.6 trillion through 2050, according to baseline projections from PwC. The analysis indicates that annual data center capital expenditure is forecast to rise from approximately $800 billion in 2026 to $1.8 trillion per year by 2050. The United States is expected to capture nearly half of this investment, totaling $15.1 trillion, while the Asia Pacific region is expected to account for $8.2 trillion. David Sacks, a former White House AI czar, stated that approximately $800 billion is being invested in AI-related capital expenditure in the United States this year. Sacks noted that this figure is expected to rise to $1.4 trillion next year as companies expand data centers and computing capacity. Industry experts indicate that the AI infrastructure buildout is a defining capital allocation challenge. Investment flows are directed by factors such as power availability, connectivity, security, policy certainty, and GPU access. While traditional infrastructure booms typically taper off after the initial build out, AI infrastructure investment is expected to accelerate as chips and other equipment require upgrades every few years.
