Minnesota Corn Yields Stand Out Amid Lackluster Midwest Crop Results

Minnesota's corn yield of 199.01 bushels per acre stood out as a strong performer during the 2026 Pro Farmer Crop Tour, despite generally disappointing results across the Corn Belt. While the state's corn yield was down 1.9% from 2025, it remained 8.7% above the three-year average. In contrast, corn yields in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois fell from last year's levels, with Illinois producing the lowest yield since 2019. Minnesota's soybean crop was also impressive, recording a pod count of 1,257.80 in a 3'X3' square, which was 15.4% above the three-year average. However, results from Nebraska showed signs of heat stress, with corn yields estimated at 163.61 bushels per acre, down 8.85% from last year. Scouts noted that Nebraska's corn crop suffered from low ear counts and grain length issues caused by high nighttime temperatures. Despite these challenges, recent rains provided moisture for the soybeans to finish filling pods, offering a potential upside for the market.
