Omar GarcĂa Harfuch attends the 40th International Drug Control Conference in Buenos Aires to strengthen security cooperation with the United States.

Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Protection of the Citizen, Omar García Harfuch, attended the 40th International Drug Control Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the event, Terrance Cole, the administrator of the DEA, publicly acknowledged Omar García Harfuch as a reliable partner and a good friend of the United States. This recognition marks a significant shift in security cooperation between the countries, especially compared to three years ago when Mexico was absent from the conference in Jamaica. Omar García Harfuch noted that information flow between the security agencies of both nations has improved significantly, leading to greater efficiency in pursuing criminals. He highlighted that the administration of President Sheinbaum has delivered 92 high-impact targets to U.S. authorities. Ambassador Ronald Johnson stated that as cooperation is strengthened by the administration and President Sheinbaum, criminals have fewer places to hide. The meeting also served as a Omar García Harfuch mission to secure the return of Rear Admiral Fernando Farúas Lagunas to Mexico, who was recently detained in Argentina.
