Attorney General Todd Blanche stated on Sunday that the Justice Department may ask the Supreme Court to intervene in dozens of cases where judges have ruled against the federal government's efforts to access state voter rolls. The administration announced that it seeks to collect data, including names and residential addresses, to investigate potential deficiencies or anomalies, such as whether noncitizens are registered to vote. Blanche noted that election integrity was a primary focus for President Trump during his campaign. While some states have voluntarily complied with the administration's request, the Justice Department has sued 30 states and Washington, D.C., for refusing to turn over the data. Democrats have alleged voter suppression in several of these instances. The federal government aims to use this data to ensure a more accurate and reliable voting process for the upcoming midterm elections.
