N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas wins Democratic Senate primary runoff in Oklahoma, sets goal to impeach President Trump

N’Kiyla Jasmine Thomas, a 31-year-old nurse and member of the Chickasaw Nation, won the Democratic Senate primary runoff in Oklahoma. Despite being significantly outspent by her opponent, Thomas defeated attorney Jim Priest to secure the nomination. As a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, Thomas expressed a clear goal to impeach, remove, and convict President Trump within her first 100 days in office if elected. She faces Republican Representative Kevin Hern in the general election. Hern, who is endorsed by Trump, is heavily favored to win the open seat in the state where President Trump won by 34 points in 2024. While Thomas advocates for progressive policies like Medicare for All and abolishing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, Hern argues that the radical left approach of Thomas is out of touch with the values of Oklahomans. Thomas enters the general election with a significant financial disadvantage, as Hern's campaign has amassed a much larger war chest compared of to her own.
