Ed Markey and Seth Moulton Debate Massachusetts Senate Seat in Final Primary Showdown
Massachusetts Democratic candidates Ed Markey and Seth Moulton faced off in their final debate before the Sept. 1 primary for the U.S. Senate. The 80-year-old incumbent Markey and the 47-year-old Rep. Moulton sparred over issues including energy prices, the Iran war, and the influence of socialism within the Democratic Party. Markey faced criticism for his response to a question regarding artificial intelligence, stating he was unsure of the specific apps his iPad used. Moulton seized on this to argue for a new generation of leadership, while Markey defended his 50-year record in Congress. The two candidates also called for the impeachment of President Trump and the abolition of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. While both candidates agreed that biological males should be able to participate in female sports, Markey accused Moulton of using trans identified athletes as "political fodder" for a past comment. Moulton apologized for his remarks, emphasizing his support for LGBTQ rights.
