Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens Criticizes Democratic National Committee for Dropping the City from 2028 Convention Shortlist

Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens expressed sharp disappointment after the Democratic National Committee eliminated the city from the shortlist to host the 2028 presidential convention. The DNC narrowed the field to Boston, Denver, and Philadelphia, leaving Atlanta and Chicago out of the running. Mayor Andre Dickens accused the party of retreating to "safe spaces" and abandoning the South and Black voters. He noted that the DNC does not consider Georgia relevant to the party's future. While the DNC Chair Ken Martin praised the remaining three bids as "incredibly strong," the administration of the Democratic Party faces financial debt and fundraising disadvantages compared to Republicans, who have already secured Houston for their 2028 gathering. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle L. Parker championed the city's bid, highlighting its recent success in hosting major events. If selected, the convention will take place from August 7 to 10, 2028, following a primary season to select a candidate to succeed President Trump.
