Mayor Jorge Rivas oversaw the demolition of several abandoned houses in Rionegro to reduce local crime and drug activity.

Mayor Jorge Rivas led the demolition of several abandoned houses in the Juan Antonio Murillo neighborhood of Rionegro. These properties had been standing since 2018 and were used by locals to sell and consume drugs. The demolition was authorized by Decree 839, which confirmed that the walls of the buildings were collapsing. Police, the Army, and several investigators were present at the site. The demolition is part of a larger goal in Antioquia to tear down 100 old or used properties that contribute to criminal activity. During this period, drug seizures in Rionegro increased by 700%. Mayor Jorge Rivas stated that the municipality will continue to work with the Public Force to ensure that crime does not get ahead of them.
