The US Army destroyed three drones used by traffickers to monitor border security during mirror operations with Mexico.
The US Army destroyed three commercial drones on the US side of the border with Mexico during the nights of August 25 and 26, 2026. The Joint Border Task Force of the Northern Command used a high-energy laser system to neutralize the devices, which were allegedly used by undocumented traffickers to conduct surveillance on authorities. This action was part of a coordinated 'mirror operation' framework established between the United States and Mexico on February 5, 2025. Under this agreement, armed forces from both countries conduct simultaneous security recognitions within their respective territories to combat arms trafficking and drug smuggling. The Mexican National Defense Secretariat confirmed the destruction of the drones, noting that the devices posed a threat to US military personnel and Customs and Border Protection Office elements. While the exact location was not specified, the operation was conducted in coordination with the 8th Zone Command based in Reynosa, Tamaulipas.
