Mexico Arrests Fausto Corrales to Solve Mystery of Ismael Zambada Kidnapping
Mexico's General Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the arrest of Fausto Corrales, a key witness to the kidnapping of Ismael Zambada. Corrales was apprehended in the Miguel Hidalgo municipality of Mexico City by a team of federal police and Interpol agents. Corrales is suspected of witnessing the events of the July 2024 kidnapping, which saw the drug trafficker taken to the U.S. by the son of JoaquĂn 'the Chapo' Guzmán. The kidnapping sparked an internal war in Mexico and raised questions regarding U.S. involvement. While the Mexico City authorities and the U.S. government have had bilateral tensions over the capture, the General Prosecutor’s Office noted that Corrales provided contradictory statements during the initial investigation. The arrest of Fausto Corrales provides a significant lead for the criminal process. He is also being investigated for his possible connection to the murder of Hector Melesio CuĂ©n, which occurred on the same day as the Zambada kidnapping.
