Beacon Partners withdraws proposal for 100,000-square-foot data center in southeast Raleigh

Beacon Partners has officially withdrawn its proposal to build a 100,000-square-foot data center on a 13.6-acre site in southeast Raleigh. The project, located at 3101 Jones Sausage Road, was intended to be a medium-sized facility requiring 12 megawatts of power. The withdrawal follows significant community backlash and skepticism from city council members regarding the project's potential impact on the area. Residents expressed concerns over increased electricity costs, water usage during a recent drought, and potential noise and heat pollution. While the council was scheduled to hear the public on Tuesday, the city confirmed the petition was pulled before the hearing could take place. The site is currently zoned for industrial mixed-use. Although the withdrawal means the annexation request will not move forward, it does not rule out the possibility of a future data center project on the land. Raleigh officials have not yet indicated if a revised proposal will be submitted in the future.
